Hi,
I would like to say that this is very weird. A company name is a hard thing. A name which is also available as a .com domain is even harder. Now, what are the odds for a designer to come up with the right name which is also a free .com domain and is properly designed? In addition, the domain may be free today but reserved after 10 days. I feel that this is not the right direction and the name should be a given at the time the logo is designed.

Understood, we are just looking to see what people might come up with. We do not have to have the .com domain name as a requirement. Thanks for the feedback - this is our first posting on 99designs and we're not sure what to expect.

I should add that we would love to be able to provide the name - we just have no idea, so we are appealing to those that are much more creative than us. We hoped for someone else with a fresh view and idea to perhaps offer up something unique.
We've been working on this for weeks and have gotten a bit burnt out - we like keywords that relate to all-inclusive and full package and project, or company management...we've just hit a brick wall. We realize this is a lot and I hope that it isn't a turn off to designers. We're very flexible and we're simply looking for someone that has that creative ability.
The work could be ongoing for the right designer.
Thanks!

I agree with @oxygenestudios just imagine 100 designers with 100 difreent names...that is caos :D
You should figure out name first and then give us to work with,
or just open new contest and offer smaller amount like 150$ for brand name...when you find it just come here and we do the logo for name :D
this is just an idea. -

Contest has been updated for name only. Logo content will be started upon successful name choice. This would mean that we are hoping for the domain as well for this contest. I couldn't lower the price so I've simply added a description to explain pricing. We'll pay $350 for the name only.

Are people actually checking to see if the domain is available before submitting because there a few I see that arent available. Might be worth checking before submitting incase the CH likes your concept.

Contest holder now it is on to you to give feedback to names you like/dislike.....I think you should present us more about your firm, where is located, something specific in surrounding...anything we could use to help you to come up with name. Also i would advise designers to check all their names in domeain checker like one here:
http://www.domaincheck.co.uk/search_result.php?full_domain=www.domainchech.com&submit=Check
Remmember to check just .com option. We have no use of allready registred domains.Happy Hunt :D

You guys are awesome. I have been providing feedback on individual designer's submissions. I will post more here as well in the general.
I like the names that roll off the tongue - I've liked things that have hub, worx, office, planworks is nice as well. I like the names that are available too :)
I have to run these by different people in our office tomorrow (we're in NC, USA EST) but you all have put some great ideas onto the table.
Thank you and I'll provide more feedback and insights as I think of them or see them.

We really want to show that we offer everything for the client from their website, to their client management, to their project management, as well as being hosted for them...it's a complete package - they pay a tiered monthly price for various additional options.

I'm personally not opposed to double letters or different spellings (such as phonetic) to get a good name. Worx, fluxx, etc... if we used a double letter it might look good to have two rhyming types of words...similar to StubHub.com (US company).

Im sure many icons are similar, but thats what springs to mind when thinking about a process. Can you show me where this has been sold to 20 companies and I will be more than happy to withdraw my logo and follow a different route.
Alternatively, Mogeek, you could of sent me a PM rather than trying to get my designs eliminated by the CH.

I'm sorry but really though. Its getting ridiculous. I'm just going to start calling people out when they use something so un-original and redundant. I'm all for a cool people logo as long as it is original. That's pretty much the damn Ubuntu logo.

To be perfectly honest Mogeek, ive never seen that site or heard of Sameer Chavan in my life. However, because it has been used before, I will remove that particular design....see how easy that was?
I thought about the word process, and came up with a diagram of a process flow and which I tweaked slightly. Oh, and it looks nothing like the Ubuntu logo. The Ubuntu logo is this:

Are you trying to name your company or a product? This seems a little blurred here. You mention basecamp as an example, but that's a product of the company 37signals.

One other thing... I think most people would agree it is a bad idea to name your company based on the availability of a domain name. Maybe the argument could be made for naming a product around domain availability, but to use basecamp as an example again, the domain for that is basecamphq.com

Just thinking out loud. I suggest maybe no stars on this one. Since you are trying to find a name with this contest, What happens if you pick a winner and some evil internet contest watcher decides to take the winning name, buy the domain and screw you? Then you just paid 700 for a logo and have no chance at getting the name unless you fork over big bucks.
Secondly. Guarantee the contest, Because it seems like anything over 500 here doesnt pay out. -

you guys make this waaay too complicated.
if you think you've done your research on a name, go to moniker (com), look up and register. ask the CH to see if she or he likes it. if it sucks, cancel the registration and pay $1 or something.

This contest can't be serious. In earnest the star ratings are worth nothing and the CH doesn't give feedback to the different entries. What could be meant with a four star rating? The name or the design or the name and the design? Think there is no need to say more.

well, I've seen some great designs, but this really isn't about design until the property is set for the name and domain. It's a on-line company and that denotes that the domain doesn't just need to be similar but be a launchpad for the company and services.

hobore, I'm new around here so I think I should keep my mouth shut, but I'm Irish and it's not in my DNA.
Some customers have money and even a [great] business idea but really nothing else creative that can be contributed. I've worked with small to large business and their all the same, the smarter the business man, the less likely they are able to deal with creative issues and vise versa. It's just a simple thing of doing what your good at and finding others to do the rest.

so, why struggling to submit so many logo ideas along with new names?
I feel unsafe to submit so many ideas for a no_name company and the contest is not even guaranteed.
Besides, this is not how the proccess of naming a company it is done actually.
Set a number of coordinates, targeted clients, understand perfectly the proccess the company will provide better services...etc. St up a few guides / parameters for the words you are seeing as a company. There are many many other things that are missed here.

On the other hand this contest i don't think is legitimate:

Ideas are like farts, everyone has them. Designers just think theirs smell better and are worth 60.00 and hour. (that's directed at myself only and from personal opinion)

I don't find the time. But is anybody out there to create a logo "blabla-online.com"? That would really match this conteast. I'm curious at what time you will be eliminated! Don't forget CH told the stars are for designing!

@hobore
I think you've made your point clear enough - we haven't asked you for your designs or input so feel free to leave at any time.

Using "flux" in any variation is a major mistake for this type of endeavor.

@rocoto: I tend to agree. Although I know what usage the CH is intending, it also has the following meanings:
• (Medicine) an abnormal discharge of blood or other matter from or within the body.
• (usu. the flux) archaic, diarrhea or dysentery. -

Yeah, it's just one of those words that has a very negative connotation to it. Plus one minor alliteration mess up and you have a vulgarity. You know that's going to happen in an awkward situation at some point.
Also:
Dysentery (known as flux or the bloody flux) is an infection of the digestive system that results in severe diarrhea containing mucus and blood in the feces. -

what about a "google" type of name? In other words something that is new, not in the dictionary, and AVAILABLE in domain form as well? I mean google, yahoo, ebay, and many others have done quite well without a "professional" name. It would open up the possibilities and be more web2.0 as well imo.

@CH
Sorry, but you are totally wrong!
#1 At the moment you started this public contest you asked me for my designs and input!
#2 You are destructive with your missing comments, humourless and simply unprofessional!
#3 You don't follow the guidelines of 99designs (see ULAHTS comment).
Nothing more to say.
I quit. -
