for the contest Mockups for large cooking site
Submitted design #6
Here is what I have done so far. Personally I like it, It is incomplete, I am tired and will finish tomorrow...
possible feedback?
While I like your take on the logo, we're wanting to stick with the current logo, so please incorporate that inro your design. I like parts of it. I'd prefer to see an interpretation of the home page first, or a more completed version of the recipe page. A few typos here and there, but keep going, it's not a bad submission.
Sounds good, thank you. Personally I do not mean to step on any toes after saying this, but I feel that if you want to compete with the sites listed something does need to be done about the logo.
I agree with you, but my hands are tied on that. Like you mentioned, I think the logo can be utilized in such a way that it feels updated, at least in comparison to the current site.

Great, but before i submit to the client, I need your copyright text at the bottom removed.

here ya go
What needs to be done to make this a 4 or 5 star?
It is a great design...a big part of me feels like the 'gray' background keeps it from popping in the way I'd like it to. Does that make sense?
Yeah, makes it seem dull, I will work on it tonight and add some of the features you listed earlier ( Rss Feeds, Font Sizes...etc)
great, I appreciate it!
Submitted design #26
Added, My Recipes Icons, Print Icons, RSS Feed Icons, Type Size, and New Search
I like all the additions, I love that you removed the gray background from the content...I'd be interested in seeing a possible change in the gray gradient from the header...the gray background just kind of...I dunno, it kills something for me...but I like this design a lot, definitely in the top 8 so far.
On top of changing the gray in the background, I'd also be interested in seeing a more 'rounded' approach to everything...the nav, the boxes, rounded off rather than squared.
O, also, I like the look of the search a lot! However, to me it seems very similar in approach to allrecipes. Looking at the four main competitor sites, they all approach search differently, and I'd like to possibly explore a different approach to the search in terms of layout. It's not bad as is, but perhaps another more original approach to accomplish the same idea would be good?
Sounds good, I will work on it when I get off work tonight
Also, I don't feel that it makes sense to rate or email or save the 'featured' recipe.
That comment above really applies to pretty much anything on the home page, if that makes sense. You shouldn't be able to save, rate, email...etc...anything that you've only seen the title for. If that makes sense. I'd also like to see the footer links more balanced out, right now, the two lines of links are kind of out of whack. But you're in my top 3 so far, so submit your absolute best! I'm excited to see it!

Slight Variation
Submitted design #34
With this version I tried to make everything flow smoothly by adding the subtle breaks before different sections/articles rather than a border around each
Personally, this is my favorite.
I like all three different interpretations of that design for different reasons, I'd like to submit them all for review to my client. I don't think I'm with you on #34 being the best, I think I personally like the first one, but in the end, it's the clients' decision. Good work. I'd ask that for all three, however, to give more padding on the navigation background vertically, and all around for the home tab. It feels too tight.
Sounds good, I will update this evening
Submitted design #41
Slightly "beefed" menu with an added pattern to the bg of the menu
Great, looks good! Question though, how are you proposing the hover or active states of the different search options appear?

Perhaps with a star when selected?

Here is a version with a possible login section to view "my cookbook"

Great, thanks!
should I work on a recipe page?
Yes, please do!
I started classes today, hopefully I will have time. I hope if I cannot get a recipe page in before the deadline it does not hurt my chances...
I really like it! For the home page design, I'd like to see if you can tastefully integrate Adsense somewhere near the header. That is a specific request from the client, and I have seen some other designs pull it off tastefully.
Thanks, great submission!
